John Ellis retired from the Civil Service having served over 43 years in The War Office, The Foreign Office and various legal departments.

He saw his first cricket match in 1930 and has been a keen follower ever since.

He is a member of the MCC, Middlesex and Surrey CCC.

He served on the Executive Committee of The Cricket Society before becoming a Trustee and retired from being a trustee in June 2013 after 22 years service which included 8 as Chairman .

He will be greatly missed on many aspects of the Trust's work. His wisdom and commitment over the years has been invaluable, specifically with the organising of a range of spectacular fund raising events.

John has donated the John Ellis Trophy which will be used at Belvoir Castle in a similar vein to that applied at Arundel Castle with the Christopher Box- Grainger Trophy.
